They are the most unloved and unlovable of people. Born at the bottom of the heap, they will never shift from under the weight of poverty and ignorance. Yet they talk of love, love, love. Love shifts curiously between these three who use each other, who abuse each other, who suffocate each other, who weigh each other down. Covinous Grim Reaper interviewees, nugatory incident reporting, monomaniacal zookeepers, wassailers barging in on the penhntalogue, a thwarted maniple, Robin Hood’s accountant’s eulogy, a concise history of concrete and many more sketches involving words we had to look up in the thesaurus and then the dictionary to make sure they meant what we wanted them to. Bright eyed and excited about the year to come, his enthusiasm is soon quashed by the most reviled class in the school, year 9F. In an attempt to interest the students he designs less than conventional lessons which inevitably turn his already unruly classroom into a circus. It seems that Alan’s students aren’t the only ones who will be getting an education this year. Meet the girls whose lives depict the everyday problems of everyday people. Who is the father of Louisa’s baby? Who has kidnapped Emma’s daughter? Who is trying to kill Jasmine? All these questions and more will be answered in the next enthralling episode of “The Phonies”.
